Creative Woodturning

About Me

My love of art and especially wood came from my late mother who could turn her hand to anything from painting wonderful pictures, to wood and stone carving. Like most school boys at that time, I learned woodwork at school.  It was there ,age 14 ,that I fell in love with the wood lathe and the art of wood turning. These days, in my purpose built workshop at the end of my garden in Hempstead, I create functional wood art, for my clients and their families to enjoy.

Due to the nature of wood, each of my pieces are as individual as their owners and I craft everything from bowls to charcuterie boards; butter knives to table lamps. The most recent designs showcase the beauty of epoxy resin, highlighting and complementing the wood, its colour and its grain.  Although I do use exotic timbers, most of my wood is sourced from my local area:  Essex, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk and I prefer English hardwoods for their natural beauty. I work closely with my suppliers to ensure that all of the wood I use comes from sustainable sources, often from Audley End Estate or the Cambridge botanical gardens.

Happy Customers

I had a plank of timber that I commissioned Russ to turn into two salmon serving platters. What I got were two beautifully crafted boards with grooves to collect the juices and a lovely finish. They have been used many times and are always admired by guests.

I wanted something different as a birthday present for my brother. Russ made a lovely Elm wood cheese board with matching knives. It was beautiful and much appreciated by my brother.
